One would have expected that, the Government should be working on the best strategy to fulfilling the campaign promises. On a meeting held at Abuja with media practitioners, the Minister of Labour and employment, Dr. Chris Ngigi stated categorically that the Government can not pay N5000 stipend to the the lazy people. The question is who is a lazy person? What makes him or her lazy? was this the term of promise before going to the poll in 2015? How long will we continue to accept this from the people we elect to represent us? We know the long hours we were under the sun just to vote for our choice candidate. Ngigi explained that there various training programmes the beneficially will go through before getting employed for N 5000 this is what he said in part.
“We also have the programme on commission cash transfer… We won’t pay N5000 for people to be indolent. No country in the world would pay people to go home and sleep and collect cash, so Nigeria would not be an exception.
“We will pay some people N5000, pay some N10,000, and for people in teacher conversion scheme, we will pay more than N10,000 – N15,000 as stipend while in training and then after the training they are going to be employed by the state and federal government in different institutions.
“It is not a programme we shall run alone. The state governments are going to buy into it, they are going to synchronize with us. We are going to do it in synergy,Ngigi said ministries of Education, Labour and Agriculture will pilot this training but no specific time was stated for the the taking off.
