BILL GATE NOT THE RICHEST MAN

There's a new richest man in the world.
It's Spanish clothing magnate Amancio Ortega, who has overtaken Microsoft founder Bill Gates for the first time ever.
Amancio Ortega
The multi-billionaire founder of European clothing retailer Zara just smashed past Bill Gates to become the wealthiest person on the planet, with a fortune of $79.8 billion (€71.83 billion or £51.84 billion).
The elusive Ortega isn't as much of a household name as Gates, but he's quietly ascended the wealth rankings in recent years, as his company continues to perform well and expand.
Unlike many of the richest people in the world, Ortega has a fascinating rags-to-riches story. Born in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War, Ortega's father earned 300 pesetas a month, a meager salary. his memories of a childhood during which his family could not always afford enough food. He left school in his early teens, working his way up from the absolute bottom rung as a messenger boy in a shop.
It wasn't until he was 40 years old that Ortega got around to setting up Zara, the fast-fashion retailer that has gone from strength to strength — first growing in Spain, Portugal and France, then London. Now it's all over the globe.
According to Forbes, Ortega's wealth rose by 5.3%, another $4 billion, over the last 24 hours. That's partly down to a surge in Inditex shares, the parent company that owns Zara.

Ritualists’ den uncovered again

LAGOS— A ritualists’ den was, yesterday, uncovered at Ogolonto area of Ikorodu Lagos, with at least eight victims, said to have been kidnapped from different parts of the country, rescued.
One of the victims, a 52-year‑old man, who identified himself simply as Onwurah, alleged that his wife had a hand in his kidnap, saying he had spent two years in the enclave.
The den was uncovered following a foiled attempt by a mother of four to take one of her victims, a seven year‑old boy, to the den.
The woman identified as Mrs Rosemary Chukwu, who resides at 33, Omologede Street, behind C&S Primary School, allegedly abducted the seven-year‑old primary school pupil, Emmanuel Emeka, on his way to fetch water from a public well at about 6.30 a.m.
She  kept the boy inside her toilet and  the was a battle of prayer among her  four children, apparently to prevent her co‑tenants from any suspicious act.
Meanwhile, back in the abducted boy’s home, located four buildings from his captors, his mother became apprehensive over his unusual delay. She was said to have raised alarm which caused residents to conduct a search round the neighborhood for Emeka.
Eye witnesses  also confirm that   the woman  even went out and suggested areas where the search party could search for the missing boy. She was said to have been sighted with a suitcase on her head, later accompanied by her children.
An eye witness, said: “the woman had told them she was traveling to the village. But one of the area boys who was among the search party, ordered his colleagues to search the woman's box. There was a turn of event.wonder shall never end.
“Immediately she heard that, she flung the box away and took to her heels. We all suspected something was amiss. When the box was opened, Emmanuel was found inside, half dead.
“The area boys descended on her and stripped her naked. On interrogation, she said her pastor, the General Overseer of Holy Family Ministry a.k.a House of Mercy, asked her to bring the boy.
“The area boys followed her to 319, Lagos Road, Ikorodu, where the church is situated, where they saw her pastor waiting for her. But on sighting the crowd, he took to his heels.
“But for the arrival of Policemen from Owutu division, the woman would have been lynched. The angry mob also attempted to set the church ablaze but were also prevented by the policemen. They, however, succeeded in torching some parts of the property.
The building located at 7, Oshodi Street, was behind the church. It was gathered that some miscreants uncovered the building while they were chasing the fleeing pastor.
The mob was said to have forced some apartments in the building open, where they found an undisclosed number of persons in chains.
The victims were said to have recounted how they were kidnapped from various part of the country among them are; Anambra, Bayelsa, Ogun and Oyo states at different times. One of them, according to eye witnesses, who pleaded anonymity, said she was kidnapped 11 years ago.
According to an eyewitness, “the woman said she is about 50 years old and that she was kidnapped along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway while returning from a vigil.
“The rest were males and were wearing briefs. They looked haggard and tired. The area boys set them free when they opened the apartments. I believe some of them should be with the police.
source disclose thatthere were bloodstains around the building and a particular apartment where those alleged to be in chains were kept, was opened up. The apartment was dark and was littered with dirty cutlery suspected to have been used to feed the victims. There was also a bowl which contained suspected human blood.
.
A 52 year‑old man seen in chains had said he was kidnapped two years ago from Anambra State. He said he used to be a commercial bus driver before he was abducted and brought to Lagos.
He could not escape because the was in chains
A source said that the building on Oshodi Street was always under lock and key. He said there were unusual movements around the compound at night..

AFRICAN BRAND, YOU MADE IT.

Brand Africa to Announce the Africa’s Top 100 Most Admired and Most Valuable Brands at the 4th Annual Brand Africa 100: Africa’s Best Brands Gala in Johannesburg on 22 October 2015
The scope and sample countries have been vastly expanded from a base of 8 countries in the past years to 22 countries covering every leading African economy
Brand Africa (brandafrica.org) is to release its highly anticipated 4th Brand Africa 100: Africa’s Best Brands rankings of the Top 100 Most Admired and Most Valuable brands in Africa at a Gala event at Sandton Convention Center on 22 October 2015.
The rankings, first launched in 2011 at the second Brand Africa FORUM, have been held in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2011 in partnership with Brand South Africa, in Nairobi, Kenya in 2014 in partnership with the Kenya Securities Exchange and in New York in 2013 partnership with African Business ion the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
This year, the scope and sample countries have been vastly expanded from a base of 8 countries in the past years to 22 countries covering every leading African economy, all 5 political regions and economic zones – making it the only and most representative and comprehensive pan-African study on brands in Africa.
Brand Africa 100 is a proprietary approach developed by Brand Leadership Group in partnership with Brand Finance plc, the world’s leading independent valuation consultancy, TNS, the globally respected consumer knowledge and information company and Geopoll, the leading mobile survey platform with a database of nearly 200m users in emerging markets.
These rankings are an important metric of the progress Africa is making in building made in Africa brands and challenging the dominant non-African brands in Africa
“These rankings are an important metric of the progress Africa is making in building made in Africa brands and challenging the dominant non-African brands in Africa which over the years have accounted for 80% of the most admired brands in Africa and a dominant 99% share of the value of the Top 100,” says Thebe Ikalafeng, Founder and Chairman – Brand Africa.
“While non-African brands dominate Africa because of their sheer volumes, historical admiration and investment, it is important for Africa’s ultimate economic independence that it competes for a larger share of its own consumer base, which is estimated will reach a population of (2) Two billion by 2050 and achieve consumer expenditure of $1 trillion by 2020. Equally, the license for non-African brands to thrive in Africa will be determined no longer by history and economic might, but by how they adapt to the evolving and increasingly assertive African consumer who demand brands that reflect their needs, conditions and ambitions.”
The Gala will be hosted by Brand South Africa and supported by Brand Finance, TNS, Geopoll, SA Mint, Fresh RSVP, SA Mint, African Business, CNBC Africa, M&G Africa, African Media Agency, Blue Media and Fresh RSVP.
Simphiwe Dana, a multi-platinum-selling award-winning South African Afro-Jazz-Soul singer and songwriter and Congolese-born TRESOR, a multi platinum selling DRC born singer-songwriter will entertain the guest, who will be feasting on the pan-African culinary delights of award-winning and international culinary star and Foodnetwork host, Siba Mtongana.  From African event

Count Down to African University Day

The Association of African Universities (AAU) is calling on all higher educational institutions in Africa to adopt innovative strategies to improve educational outcomes on the continent, as it joins other stakeholders to commemorate the annual African University Day Celebrations on the 12th November 2015.
With an objective of presenting a unique platform to promote critical dialogue among stakeholders on how to improve higher education in Africa, the Day has been celebrated by higher education institutions since year 2006. It is also set aside to celebrate success stories of higher education across the continent.
This year’s theme, “Internationalisation of Higher Education,” was aptly chosen in furtherance of the discussions at the recent Conference of Rectors, Vice Chancellors and Presidents of African Higher Education Institutions (COREVIP) held in Kigali, Rwanda, in June this year.
“Internationalisation is now an integral part of higher education in all parts of the world and, in many instances, a major driving force for change in universities. African universities should, therefore, adopt new internationalisation strategies” said Professor Etienne Ehile, Secretary General of AAU. “We need to contextualise and prioritise our activities by giving preference to national, regional as well as global activities. In a world that is inevitably globalised, working and collaborating with institutions in all parts of the world, on clear agreed terms, can only be enriching for universities and students in Africa”.
This year’s celebration is aimed at creating the platform for intellectual discussions and debates on the key issues African universities should focus on, as we internationalise to ensure that we, as institutions, and our students derive the full benefits of such collaborations.

Events to Mark African University Day

Events to mark the Day can take the form of seminars, workshops, or panel discussions in which both policy-makers and major stakeholders should actively participate. This could be supplemented by interviews granted to the public and private media, press releases, articles in local newspapers, and exhibitions of publications and other outputs by Universities.
Enloghomes is at the edge to bring you the event as they unfold  in African university Day. stay tuned

BREAKING NEWS MORE WILL COME LATER

Super Eagles Coach, Oliseh heads to Belgium for medical treatment

“Coach Sunday Oliseh has returned to Belgium to continue treatment after being advised by Eagles medics," an NFF tweet says.

“He became dizzy and weak after lunch on Thursday and he travels abroad tonight through the Port Harcourt Airport.”

This means the Super Eagles would be without coach Oliseh when they travel later on Friday to Burkina Faso for the second leg CHAN qualifier in Ouagadogou.

Oliseh had joined his assistants after undergoing treatment in Belgium and was on the bench when the Eagles whipped the Etalons of Burkina Faso 2-0 in Port Harcourt last week, in their first leg African Nations Championship qualifying clash.

May he get better soon!

GOOGLE MAKE MORE PROFIT ON WEB TRAFFIC.

Google parent Alphabet Inc. sold more ads and kept costs under control, fueling better-than-projected sales and profit in the latest quarter.
The strong growth, plus a cash balance of $72.8 billion, gave Google’s board enough confidence to authorize $5.1 billion in share buybacks, the first ever. The stock -- which was already trading near a record after a recent surge -- jumped as much as 11 percent.
All this shows how Chief Executive Officer Larry Page and new Chief Financial Officer Ruth Porat are bringing more operational and financial discipline to the sprawling Web enterprise. As part of that, the business will become a new holding company called Alphabet to separate Google’s main business from various new endeavors, and the new structure will be reflected in results starting next year

Revenue, excluding sales passed on to partners, rose 15 percent to $15.1 billion in the third quarter, the company said in a statement Thursday, compared with analysts’ average estimate for $15 billion, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Profit, excluding some items, was $7.35 a share, beating predictions of $7.20. The figures are still being reported in line with past quarters -- before the final transition in the coming months.
A key challenge for Google’s management is to control spending on initiatives to boost Web traffic, which are aimed at making up for declining ad prices on mobile devices. Those efforts are paying off, with total clicks on ads up 23 percent, even as the average price for ads fell 16 percent on Google’s websites.

This to me is an indication that google has placed itself on the the platform to control the digital world for an estimated time. Let us hear your view.

ELECTRICITY, TARIFFS SOAR

As a matter of fact the life of most SMEs might depend on common flow of electric current for their daily living  but there is all indication that the   plans have been concluded to increase electricity tariffs by as much as 40 per cent for some customers next month  the reason being the  fall in the value of the naira and rising costs of production for making sure that there is an  end  to daily blackouts in the country.

According Dr. Sam Amadi, some tariffs will increase by five per cent, while others will see prices raised as much as 40 per cent, depending on the electricity distribution companies and class of customer, adding that the change in rates would take place mid-November, 2015.
