RIVERS ELECTION SUSPENDED

Saturday 19th March 2016 saw a great travail the soil of Rivers State one of the oil producing States  in Nigeria.  The Court of Appeal ordered the re run of election in to the National and State Houses in the state.

A number of things went wrong people in position of authority display their  power to fullness. The news  has that in not fewer than (4) Local Government Areas elections did not hold which called for out right break down of law and order. All these  event seem not to make meaning to the whole situation but the most worrying situation in River State is the rate of killing during  the process of electioneering

The Independent National Electoral commission has issue a statement on why it has to suspend the election in the state.

In the statement, INEC declare as unfortunate the ugly and shameful activities of the power banks who feel power belongs to them and could manipulation it even to the detriment of  the mass.
It state that in most cases the election did not commence smoothly.
The statement reads in part.

“Of more serious concern was the level of threats, violence and intimidation of election officials and voters by well armed thugs and miscreants allegedly acting on behalf of some politicians, which marred the elections in some areas. There were reports of numerous attacks resulting in fatalities, kidnappings, ballot snatching, diversion of officials and materials, amongst others, which necessitated its suspension in 8 Local Government Areas
One start to wonder when will Nigerian ever understand that the purpose of leadership. The shocking thing is that these deviant and meaningless behaviour seem to take the center stage. In most cases throwing pains to a number of families. Yet, those in authority pay no attention to effect of all these evil in the name of politic. Must we continue to play politics with the blood of our son and daughters? It is high time we sat down and reflect on the purpose of leadership and pay regards to lives.
we want to believe it was on this note that INEC  added the following lines of statement.
“Having reviewed the situation, the Commission is compelled to suspend all further action concerning the exercise in all the other constituencies in the State pending the receipt of a comprehensive report from its Field Officials and Monitors. For the avoidance of doubt, it should be noted that the suspension does not affect the constituencies where the exercise has been completed and the results declared by the Returning Officers.”
Good luck Nigeria.
