PDP TO ELECT BOT JAN 14

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would on January 14 elect a substantive Board of Trustee (BoT) Chairman to take over from Mohammed Haliru Bello, who has been in acting capacity.
The party, in preparations for the 2019 general elections, is also putting modalities in place to woo aggrieved members and founding fathers, who had left its fold.
This was disclosed yesterday by the BoT Secretary, Walid Jibrin, while reading the communique of the BoT meeting held on Friday in Abuja.
Fielding questions from journalists, while speaking on the legal crisis rocking the leadership of the party, Jibrin said all matters concerning the well-being of the party would be discussed on January 14, when a larger meeting of the board would be held.
On the chances of the party in 2019, the BoT Secretary said PDP is not in shambles but alive and kicking, adding that it has the opportunity now to win the 2019 general elections.
Asked as to who the contenders for the position are, Jibrin said: “The issue will be discussed on the 14th of January, I don’t know the contenders, but if Bello wants to contest he is welcome”.
He added further saying: “BoT is the conscience of the party. We have decided that all legal matters will be looked into on the 14th of next month, to bring sanity to the party.
“PDP is not in shambles, the party is alive and kicking. People are aggrieved, we are ready to dialogue with aggrieved members and founding fathers within and outside the party.
“We have the opportunity now to win election in 2019. If we don’t come out now, God will not forgive us. We have to come out now and address issues in the party. On the 14, we will do the right thing without fear of anybody”, he said.
On the coming national convention of the party, which the leadership fixed for March 19, Jibrin maintained that the party National Working Committee (NWC) did not err on the fixed date On the corruption scandal involving the former NSA, Sambo Dasuki in an arms deal, the BoT Secretary said PDP does not support corruption, that whoever is involved should be death with.
He advised the federal government to shun selective prosecution and bring all whether ruling or opposition party members, who are involved to book.
Part of the communique reads: “The meeting noted that quorum was not formed due to the following reasons: Very crucial party activities in Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Ekiti and some other party activities in some states. Bad whether situations in some parts of the country that prevented flights”.
“However, the meeting recommended that a large meeting of BoT be called on the 14th January 2016 to elect a substantive BoT Chairman”, the communique said.
