A Kano Chief Magistrate Court has ordered that the principle suspects and three accomplices in the killing 74-year-old Mrs. Bridget Agbahime be remanded in prison custody.
The accused persons include the principle suspect Dauda Ahmed, and accomplices- Abdulmumuni Mustapha, Zubairu Abubakar, Abdullahi Abubakar and Musa Abullahi- who were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Muhammed Jubirin by the state Police command on four count-charge.
Mrs. Agbahime was gruesomely murdered by a mob for allegedly committing a blasphemy at Wambai Market Kano on June 2, this year, a development that attracted wide condemnation.
The prosecution, led by Usman A. Jubrin, informed the court that the accused persons jointly incited public disturbance and engaged in mischief, leading to the death of Mrs. Agbahime.
According to the charge sheet, the suspects were accused of “committing offences of inciting disturbance, joint act, mischief and culpable homicide, contrary to section, 114,80,327 and 221 of the penal code law.”
It disclosed that Ahmed had a brawl with the deceased, which led him to physically assault her, after which he proceeded to shout ‘Allahu Akbar,” meaning, “Allah is Great,” which attracted a crowd that pounced on her.
The charge further read: “It was the shout by the first accused that attracted a huge crowd, to whom he disclosed that Bridget had blasphemed the prophet of Islam PBUH.
“Information gathered further disclosed that the crowd went ahead to strike the accused woman with clubs and various types of dangerous weapon, culminating into her suffering from grievous hurt, leading to her death.”
However, the five accused denied the allegations, insisting all that was contained in the First Interim Report (FIR) was not true.
