Bayelsa: Dickson vows to crush kidnappers, pipeline vandals
The Bayelsa State Governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson, has vowed to crush some youths, whom he described as misguided, who are involved in kidnapping, sea piracy, pipeline vandalism and other criminal activities in the state.

The governor spoke in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital on Tuesday, during the opening of the command’s office of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and the inauguration of gunboats for the command.
The event was attended by Dickson, his deputy, John Jonah; Commander, Joint Task Force, Operation Pulo Shield, Maj. Gen. Alani Okunlola; the state Commissioner of Police, Peter Ogunyanwo; Deputy Commandant-General, NSCDC, Mr. O. Nnamdi; and the State Commandant, NSCDC, Desmond Agu.
Dickson said his government in its second term would consolidate on the security and development of the state.
The governor stated, “So, I want to use this opportunity to call on all misguided youths in this state that have decided to create instability, be they kidnappers, pipeline vandals, sea pirates or crude oil thieves, to desist from those nefarious acts.“With the support of our government, security forces and the cooperation of our citizenry, we are determined to crush all those that are involved in one criminal act or the other in our state.”
The governor added that the inauguration of the gunboats was a demonstration and commitment of the NSCDC to play more roles in the security of the state, noting that the command had done well in the protection of lives and critical national assets in the stateHe also regretted that some surveillance contractors in the state had become liabilities instead of being assets.
He, therefore, called on the security agencies in the state to beam their searchlights on the activities of the surveillance contractors.
Dickson said,
“I hope to call on surveillance contractors, who, instead of being an asset to the security forces and the government, have become liabilities. I trust that CG will take appropriate actions against such people..
